Role and Responsibilities
- A Quantity Surveyor job plays a vital role in ensuring smooth project delivery by supporting the Senior Quantity Surveyor across all commercial, financial, and contractual functions. This position involves reviewing Bills of Quantities, carrying out rate analysis, and managing key commercial activities essential for the success of construction projects.
- One major responsibility in this Quantity Surveyor job is assisting in the verification and certification of payments submitted by contractors and consultants. The role also includes preparing and reviewing BOQs, assessing claims, variations, addendums, and evaluating extension-of-time requests according to official project guidelines.
- The job requires close coordination with the client’s Contracts Department and multiple internal teams to resolve issues efficiently. Quantity Surveyors also maintain communication with consultants and contractor QS teams to ensure commercial matters are addressed properly.
- Another important part of this Quantity Surveyor job is capturing lessons learned from procurement, cost, and financial procedures to improve systems and processes. Contract administration, cost reporting, tracking commercial activities, and attending project meetings are also part of the daily workload.
- Overall, this role plays an essential part in ensuring all commercial and contractual aspects of a project are delivered smoothly and on time.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- A Quantity Surveyor job requires a university degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
- Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken, are essential for this role.
- Must have hands-on experience working on deep tunnel or deep excavation projects.
- A valid driving license is required for this Quantity Surveyor job.
- Professional accreditation such as MRICS or an equivalent certification is preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of post-graduate experience is required.
- Experience in major infrastructure projects is essential, especially involving:
- Drainage pipelines
- Wastewater treatment plants
- Pumping stations
- TSE pipelines
- Surface and groundwater systems
- Underground utilities
- Civil structures
- The Quantity Surveyor job requires strong contract management skills, including resolving contractual issues.
- Knowledge of Design-Bid-Build and Design & Build contract models, or experience working with them, is highly valuable.
- Must be able to manage both pre-contract and post-contract duties effectively.
- Experience with procurement processes, tendering procedures, and bid evaluations is important.
- Ability to lead and coordinate medium-sized multidisciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with contract standards such as FIDIC and government contract forms is essential.
- Prior work experience in Qatar is mandatory for this Quantity Surveyor job.
